Cancer, etc, update
Yesterday, about 7:40 pm, I went to CVS and got 4 bottles of Gatorade for me and some cold cokes for Len and Tony (Hawk never accepts anything from me). I expected the Gatorades would last me till this afternoon. It is really hot here, in the blaring sun, on the sidewalk, here in front of the Can Embassy, all day long. Well, all 4 bottles were drained, about a gallon, I figure, before bed time, and by morning I'd really not peed at all. Most of the time I feel quite well, but occasionally, quite sick from the sun.
There was a brief indication this morning, unexpected, that the CCNV Infirmary had rethought their requirement that I, we, surrender our basic rights to be treated as humans upon entry, but as the day wore on, that does not seem to be transpiring. (It is odd, I think, but I'm all of a sudden getting a glimpse of why the Right hates Government Staffers. I'm not saying it is justified, but I am getting a glimpse of why. No sense of accountability, in some cases. They've got their job, on tax-payer $, now, screw you. But much more than that it is - abuse the homeless, the financially poor, because YOU CAN, and not get hit back! No, I'm not bitter. Just sad. And tired. So much inhumanity.)
Mind you, the only group in this country I have any respect for is our public workers - army, nurses, docs, public servants.... I suppose what is most amazing, in our sick, dying culture, is that there are folks like Doc Cardile, Nurse Beth, Soc Wrkr Steph... that keep their Loving Humanity and Serving no matter what. Awe Inspiring.
My Family in Hyattsville has continued God-ly arrangements for me to stay with them. God-send.
Just heard from GUH (hosp), an Angel social worker there that's really been stepping up to be a Sister, an Angel, to me. The Infusion does NOT start tomorrow, but Friday. I'm GUESSING that at my 9:30am tomorrow I'll be told Good News, that the pharma has been persuaded by GUH to include me in the Drug Trial, despite the operation expected to conclude my 2 mos chemo. In any case, I'll know more after my 9:30 tomorrow with Doc H. I may be there for many hours tomorrow on pre-Trial Test stuff.
[[[Update. Just heard from my beloved oncologist, Doc H, and no, the pharma turned me down. My understanding is that the major impact to me and my future in this, is that less of my time will be required for tests, many days less. But I'm sorry for Doc H, cuz I think it would have been helpful to his work. :-( ]]]
If this holds, I'll maintain my stand against Ecocide by Fossil Fuels, in the blazing heat, till Thursday, and then go to Hyattsville, get set up there, and start Chemo infusion on Friday.
My Angel Ms. Joanne at GUH is positioning to arrange with volunteer drivers to take me to and from my infusions, and for 3 meals per day. My my my. Goodness is sooooo rare, but there still are shreds.
