Stern Review on the Economics of Climate Change
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stern_Review

The Stern Review on the Economics of Climate Change is a 700-page report released for the British government on 30 October 2006 by economist Nicholas Stern, chair of the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment at the London School of Economics and also chair of the Centre for Climate Change Economics and Policy (CCCEP) at Leeds University and LSE. The report discusses the effect of global warming on the world economy. Although not the first economic report on climate change, it is significant as the largest and most widely known and discussed report of its kind.[1]

The Review states that climate change is the greatest and widest-ranging market failure ever seen, presenting a unique challenge for economics.[2] The Review provides prescriptions including environmental taxes to minimise the economic and social disruptions. The Stern Review's main conclusion is that the benefits of strong, early action on climate change far outweigh the costs of not acting.[3] The Review points to the potential impacts of climate change on water resources, food production, health, and the environment[clarification needed]. According to the Review, without action, the overall costs of climate change will be equivalent to losing at least 5% of global gross domestic product (GDP) each year, now and forever. Including a wider range of risks and impacts could increase this to 20% of GDP or more, also indefinitely. Stern believes that 5-6 degrees of temperature increase is "a real possibility."[4]

The Review proposes that one percent of global GDP per annum is required to be invested in order to avoid the worst effects of climate change. In June 2008, Stern increased the estimate for the annual cost of achieving stabilisation between 500 and 550 ppm CO2e to 2% of GDP to account for faster than expected climate change.[5]...

Ecocide's Death Fast Day 18:YOU have a duty, now. My avatar is degrading rapidly now. YOU have a Duty in my final days and hours (detail)

You have a duty, a moral responsibility to witness who I am and what I am made of.  We can only best learn such things when one is under extreme stress, and that surely is the stage I am in now - physical, psychological, spiritual.

The issue is, as my body changes, as my brain changes due to lack of stress, you have a duty to discern what if my behavior is me, Loving, and what of my behavior is a changed body and nervous system due to chemical, fluid, calorie imalances.  Behaviors of mine due to such is not appropriate or fair to ascribe to who I am, what I am, what I've become.

You have a duty to discern as best you can, what is me, what is an altered avatar.

And my avatar is altering very rapidly now.

From a High School sweetheart: "You have chosen the path of the bodisattva..." (details)

From a breathtakingly bright, creative, talented, kind, giving, trusting, generous friend I was immensely privileged, and sooooooo unworthy, to have as a friend, in high school:

"Things were different then--people had picnics and Spring was a blessed event.
The dogwood trees bloomed and we knew the sweet air was all ours to breathe.
It was probably mid May.  Our shirt sleeves were short, the sun was a white ball of light in a chalky blue sky.
Who knew then it would come to this for us all?

Though you have chosen the path of the bodisattva,
This is how I will remember you--a kind, strong,  boy-man  with teal-colored eyes.
Even then, you held strong opinions with a strong sense of right and wrong.
I admired you and loved the sound of your voice, whether speaking or singing.

When you pass from this world, I think a rainbow will mark the spot where you stood."

Napoleon: “Do you know, Fontanes, what astonishes me most in this world? The inability of force to create anything. In the long run the sword is always beaten by the spirit.”

'I thought not,' said the Spirit.

But of the few who do, I silently hand them the handout above, they read silently, thoughfully, puzzling for a while.  When they look back to me I cross my forearms over my heart, the sign for Loving, and bow slightly.

Rarely, when they walk away, do I not see them re-reading the flier as they walk, silently, thoughtfully.

Coming from a Cree sister this means a particularly great amount to me.  I had such great hope that there were still great warriors there, tho I no longer have that hope - all evidence to the conrtrary - their hearts too are Dead - just zombies, like the rest of us. But sister Blueskywoman Cree has been different than most people of any background - kind, reverential of all people, serious of purpose, dutiful, deeply of the Spirit.

It has been a help, and Joyful, for me to know her.
