Important consideration. I think that the pursuit of immediate Justice.....

Important consideration. I think that the pursuit of immediate Justice is typically defeating of more goodness in the world. This just hit me although I think maybe my nervous system has known for most of my life. Walking to internet this morning on a largely empty high speed Road a column of cars approached me as I was as close to the curb as I could be. No cars coming the opposite direction. Three of the four cars naturally gave me a wide berth. The third car in the column did no such thing giving me not an inch. It was so outrageous had I had a hammer in my hand I would have swung it to the side to damage the car in Justice. I'm not happy about that reaction but I'm not unhappy either. It would have been just and maybe even brought more Justice into the world. But it would not have brought more goodness into the world and probably the opposite, hatred, anger. And if I had had a hammer in my hand with that thought occurring to me in that instant I would not have swung it at the car. Now that I see the choice, thankfully in this instance, and now in the future, I definitely prefer the possibility of more goodness in the world, even at the expense of increased immediate Justice. I may find exceptions to this but I think this will be a general principle for me gladly going forward. Although I've never heard this above outlined sentiment expressed, I suspect it is at the root of the nonviolent action advocated for by Tolstoy and Gandhi. They were fairly explicit that what they refer to as non-violence was love in action.

The pursuit of justice is a wonderful breeding ground, a wonderful excuse, for hatred among those doing the pursuit toward whoever their targets are. The arrogance, hatred, hypocrisy in current 2016 so-called activism is throwing this in my face as I so wish it was not. Without love, it is hatred. If anyone is being dehumanized, discriminated against against, victimized, it is not loving, just more of the same old hatred. Not Revolution. More of the same. Just an attempted change in who is doing the oppressing and who is oppressed.

I just don't seem to have it in me to work for justice. Sanders, and those working with him, do, but I just don't find it in me. I have it in me to work, every breath, for loving, but for me, a just world, that is not loving, I just don't have it in me to work for, and I think it's an illusion, I don't think you can arrive at, and I certainly don't think you can maintain, a just world, that is not first, loving.  I don't have it in me to work for justice, first. If you work for loving you may get the healthy, vibrant, joyful, living, self perpetuating, lovely child ... Justice. If you work for Justice at best you will get a stillborn child. At least that's my understanding of how it has always worked and always will.

***** JEWISH VOICE FOR PEACE, JVP.  I would rather have money to support this group and several others, than a roof over my head, quite literally. So I am refusing the opulent subsidized housing that has become available to me, I'll live in this homeless shelter until it closes and then on the streets, for the joy of having all of my meager, just above poverty level retirement funds, supporting this JVP organization and several others. Please consider supporting this organization, JVP. Some of you know that I see very few organizations or individuals worthy of the sacred name, activist. These folks continue to impress me. Thank you. James. https://actionsprout.io/BA3A31

Justice is love expressing itself. Dominic Crossan paraphrase.  15 years ago or so a Methodist pastor, an African American woman in an upper class white church that I attended, told me at a conference one time, James, you love justice more than anyone I've ever seen. I replied strongly, and respectfully, that I strongly disagreed. I said, it is not justice that I love, but people. 12 years later now I realize that we were both correct. I learned in a Dominic Crossan book on the man Jesus, the historical Jesus, that I read about a year ago. In the book, one of his later ones, possibly on the Lord's Prayer, he said something like justice is love expressing itself. I think that's exactly right. Brilliant. Monumentally important understanding.

"Throughout the Civil War, youngsters followed brothers, fathers and even teachers into battle. They often had support roles but quickly graduated into combat roles. They were sometimes recruited at school and, when necessary, used weapons that were cut down and adapted for use by smaller people. David Baily Freemen, “Little Dave,” enlisted in the Confederate army at age 11, first accompanying his older brother as an aide-de-camp and then as a “marker” for a survey team before finally fighting against Sherman’s army. Joseph John Clem (who changed his name to John Lincoln Clem) officially enlisted in the Union army at age 10 although he had been a camp follower since age 9. Gilbert “Little Gib” Van Zandt, age 10, followed his teacher into the Ohio Volunteer Infantry where he joined his father, uncles and friends. He joined up when recruiters arrived at his school despite his mother’s pleas that he was “too young to fight.” Clarence D. McKenzie, a drummer boy for Brooklyn’s 13th Regiment was killed at Annapolis, Md., when he was only 12. His funeral, held on July 14, 1861, was attended by 3,000 people. A statute of the boy and his drum was erected to commemorate his sacrifice and is still one of the most visited graves in Brooklyn’s Greenwood cemetery today. ....." http://www.fdu.edu/newspubs/magazine/05sf/childsoldiers.html
