From a breathtakingly bright, creative, talented, kind, giving, trusting, generous friend I was immensely privileged, and sooooooo unworthy, to have as a friend, in high school:
"Things were different then--people had picnics and Spring was a blessed event.
The dogwood trees bloomed and we knew the sweet air was all ours to breathe.
It was probably mid May. Our shirt sleeves were short, the sun was a white ball of light in a chalky blue sky.
Who knew then it would come to this for us all?
Though you have chosen the path of the bodisattva,
This is how I will remember you--a kind, strong, boy-man with teal-colored eyes.
Even then, you held strong opinions with a strong sense of right and wrong.
I admired you and loved the sound of your voice, whether speaking or singing.
When you pass from this world, I think a rainbow will mark the spot where you stood."
